Melatonin decelerates the aging of the brain, can induce antioxidant enzymes and reduce lipid peroxidation. It was shown that melatonin can extend the life of simple organisms and vertebrate species.
Melatonin can retard the thymus involution that characterizes aging!
It’s worth mention that extreme longevity of centenarians is associated with a pronounced diurnal flux of melatonin.
